IKONA
As a multimedia self portraiture artist, I intertwine photography, photoshop, hand and machine embroidery, paint and giclée print to understand the interconnected consortia of humanity within the biodiversity of Life. Central to my artwork is a visual activism representing the power of Women. I illustrate these influences through large scale portraiture in my IKONA project dedicated to living women who inspire my journey as a female artist.
IKONA | Mirrored Interior honours ten female icons inspiring others through their actions. In this series, I encourage the observer to explore the intricate layers within Women. I aim to translate this by capturing the feminine spirit embedded in each of my subjects through an impulsive yet deliberate blending of processes. On aesthetically framed printed canvases, I combined digital drawing, photo compositing, hand embroidery and paintwork. Each medium is visually crucial towards the representation of the profound layers within the Self. These artworks are deeply personal, as woven into the surfaces, viewers can decipher my self infused photographic portraiture. I apply this introspective method in an effort to understand the spiritual union between Women.
I consider activism a vital part of my calling as an artist, as well as contributing in a positive way to our global society, therefore 10% of proceeds generated from this IKONA series are donated to Working Chance the UK’s only employment charity solely for Women with convictions.
